MCGA: MAIO Certified GEO Associate
The MAIO Certified GEO Associate (MCGA) is the first of two GEO certifications. It teaches how AI search finds, understands, cites, and recommends pages, and how to fix common visibility problems.
This page is public and does not require sign-in. Training, exam prep, and the exam require a free account.
Prerequisite: None
Effort: Approximately 6 hours, self-paced.
Assessment: The exam draws 25 questions from all 12 chapters in random order. You have 30 minutes and need 20 correct (80 percent). The countdown stays visible, every attempt is saved, and you can retry until you pass. Exam prep is practice and does not grant the credential.
Career: Show MCGA on a resume, LinkedIn profile, or proposal. It shows that you can check how AI search finds a page, write clear answers, and turn source-level GEO evidence into a list of fixes.

What is the MCGA certification?
MCGA is a free, vendor-agnostic GEO credential. You study 12 chapters on how answer engines retrieve and cite content, practice with written questions, then pass a timed exam. A pass issues a badge, a certificate ID, and a public certificate page.
Who is MCGA for?
SEO specialists, content creators, digital marketers, and anyone entering GEO. No prior GEO experience is needed and there is no prerequisite.
What does the MCGA exam cover?
The exam draws 25 questions from all 12 chapters in random order. The topics are the fundamentals of GEO and AI search, content optimization for AI discovery, brand visibility and citation analysis, vendor-neutral GEO measurement, and identifying and prioritizing improvements. Scored questions test transferable methods, not MAIO product features.
How long does MCGA take and how is it scored?
Plan on about 6 hours of self-paced study. The exam gives you 30 minutes and you need 20 of 25 correct (80 percent). Every attempt is saved and you can retry until you pass.
How do I get MCGA certified?
Create a free MAIO account, read the training chapters, take the exam prep practice sets, then take the exam. Exam prep is practice only and does not grant the credential.
What comes after MCGA?
Passing MCGA opens the MAIO Certified GEO Professional (MCGP) training, exam prep, and exam. MCGP stays closed until you pass MCGA.
